One Health concept embodies the interconnections of human, animal, and environmental health which encompasses the air, water, and soil that surround us. The focus is on the silent epidemic of antimicrobial resistance which is threatening the effectiveness of life-saving antibiotics and food safety.
To address this issue we have developed rapid diagnostics solutions to make sure antibiotics work first time, every time.
who we are
From Crisis to Innovation
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Roshan Naik watched with growing alarm as another crisis quietly intensified. As a biomedical Scientist, he heard first hand stories, how years of antibiotic misuse had accelerated during the pandemic, with antibiotics being prescribed indiscriminately for viral infections where they had no benefit. ” We’re creating the next pandemic ourselves,” he told Swaroopa, a fellow biotechnologist with extensive microbiology experience. Upon closer inspection, we realized that without rapid diagnostics, doctors prescribe broad-spectrum antibiotics before they even know what they’re treating.
Starting with Water
Their journey began unexpectedly. Rather than tackling human diagnostics immediately, they focused first on water contamination—a significant source of antimicrobial resistance spread that received less attention. Clean water is foundational to health and water testing lets us validate our technology without the immediate regulatory hurdles of clinical diagnostics.
The Breakthrough: UTI diagnosis
With initial validation and funding secured, Roshan and Swaroopa turned their attention to human applications. They identified urinary tract infections as their first target—common infections frequently mistreated with unnecessary antibiotics.
Roshan and Swaroopa’s deep knowledge in biomarker analysis and microbiological skills helped them identify differential patterns in key enzymatic activity which led to development of prototype with precise pathogen identification and characterization of antibiotic susceptibility profile.
